WholeAustin · Austin metro · Business Leaders
The complete Austin guide to business leaders — the local businesses and the firms that shape the market, each read for how findable it is online, alongside the concepts, the news and the questions that define the field. Own one? See where you stand and exactly what to improve.
The firms, funds and institutions that set the terms in business leaders — context, not local listings; never scored.
The constraint layer that makes public-company executive communications a distinct discipline: Regulation FD, quiet periods, material nonpublic information, forward-looking-statement safe harbour, and where a social post crosses from marketing into disclosure. The pillar that legal and IR will actually read, and the one that separates a credible program from a content calendar.
Defining what a leader is publicly for — the signature topic, the defensible point of view, the audiences it must reach, and the proof that supports it. Everything downstream is execution of this document, and most failing programs fail here rather than in the writing.
The hierarchy that keeps a company saying one thing: master narrative, pillars, proof points, and the approved language that survives an earnings call, a keynote, a reporter's question and a LinkedIn post without drifting. Includes how executive point of view differs from — and must not contradict — corporate messaging.
Building and working a beat-reporter list, pitching against a news hook rather than a product, and managing embargoes, exclusives and the on-the-record/background/off-the-record distinction. The discipline where an untrained executive does the most damage fastest.
Bridging and blocking, message discipline under pressure, hostile-question rehearsal, on-camera presence, and the formal designation of who is authorized to speak for the company on which topics. Training is a compliance control as much as a performance one.
Placing executive-authored argument in trade and business publications: outlet targeting, pitch and abstract, the difference between a contributed trade byline and a national op-ed, editorial standards on ghostwriting, and why a placement with no point of view is worse than none.
Building a speaking calendar deliberately — call-for-papers submissions, speaker bureaus, keynote versus panel economics, the trade-show circuit versus the flagship industry conference, and turning one stage appearance into a quarter of derivative content.
The channel that has become the default executive platform: profile as positioning document, posting cadence, format mix, comment strategy, the personal-versus-corporate-account question, employee amplification, and the disclosure rules that apply the moment a public-company executive posts something material.
Guest podcast circuits, owned video and interview series, executive video production and remote-recording workflows, and repurposing long-form appearances into clips, transcripts and bylines. The format shift that is displacing the traditional op-ed as the primary vehicle for executive argument.
The quarterly cycle: prepared remarks, Q&A preparation and the likely-question bank, the press release and call script, safe-harbour language, guidance framing, and coordinating what the CEO says on the call with what the same CEO says everywhere else that quarter.
Multi-year strategy communication to the sell side and buy side: investor day design and rehearsal, non-deal roadshows, conference participation, analyst and index-provider relationships, perception studies, and the shareholder-targeting work that decides who is in the room.
Employees now read executive communications as closely as external audiences and screenshot them faster. Covers all-hands and town-hall design, leader cascades, manager enablement, internal-first sequencing on sensitive news, and employee advocacy programs that amplify without scripting people.
Holding statements, dark sites, escalation trees, the apology framework, disclosure obligations when a crisis is itself material, and the reputation risk register that identifies what could break before it does. The capability that is worthless unless it is built and rehearsed in advance.
Share of voice, sentiment analysis, message pull-through, executive equity of the brand, and perception audits — moving the program's scorecard off impressions and ad-value equivalency and onto measures a CFO will fund.
The unglamorous machinery that makes a program run: ghostwriting workflow and voice capture, interview-to-draft cadence, approval and legal review routing, attribution ethics, disclosure of AI assistance, and the asset library that keeps the pipeline full between milestones.
Announcing a CEO change, onboarding a new leader's public voice, managing a departure without creating a narrative vacuum, board and investor sequencing, and the founder-to-professional-CEO handoff that Austin's technology companies run repeatedly.
PR places the company; executive communications builds and defends one leader's platform inside the disclosure rules
answer from Reg FD itself — a post can be a recognized channel if the company has said so; cite the rule text
define materiality as what a reasonable investor would want, and give the practical test comms teams actually apply
explain that the quiet period is company policy layered on securities law, so the boundary is set by their own counsel
explain that the company must tell investors in advance where it will speak, and where that notice normally lives
define it as a defensible point of view on a named topic, not a personal-brand exercise
explain it as the structure that keeps an earnings call, a keynote and a post saying the same thing
define each precisely and note that the terms must be agreed before the sentence, not after
describe the mechanics — bridging, blocking, recorded mock interviews, playback — rather than selling confidence
explain it as the pre-approved first response that buys time without conceding facts
explain it as a pre-built, unpublished crisis page, and that it is built before there is a reason to
answer honestly: the standard is that the views and approval are the executive's, and publishers set their own attribution rules
explain that it is only meaningful against a defined competitive set and a defined source list, both of which you choose
explain that cadence should follow what the executive can actually sustain and approve; do not assert a posts-per-week number
answer through Reg FD and materiality: if it is material, it goes through a recognized channel first
explain the mechanism and that the specific list of permitted topics is set by the company's own disclosure policy
